Merry and Pippin escape the Orcs and meet Treebeard.
Grishnákh attempts to steal away with the hobbits, but he is killed by a rider. Merry and Pippin are able to slip away before dawn without being noticed before the fighting begins and enter Fangorn. In Fangorn they come across Treebeard, who takes them to his home.

Éomer and his men do battle with the Orcs at dawn, killing them all. In the end Éomer killed Uglúk in sword to sword combat.
