Frodo, Sam, and Pippin are forced to hide in the woods when they are overtaken by a Black Rider. Frodo sees the Rider, while the others do not. They encounter a second Rider, but it is driven off by a group of elves led by Gildor. They join the elves and travel to the North of Woodhall. They enjoy much food and conversation. The elves slip away while the Hobbits sleep.

In the calendar of the Shire, there are 12 months each with 30 days, so there will be no results for the 31st of any month, and February will have entries on the 29th and 30th.
