Frodo, Sam, and Pippin make their way to Buckleberry Ferry, encountering another Rider on the way. Meanwhile, Farmer Maggot stands up to the threats of a Black Rider who asks him about Baggins. Later, the group arrives at Farmer Maggot's who helps take them to the Buckleberry Ferry. On the way, they meet Merry who had come to find them. They cross the Brandywine and arrive at Crickhollow. Merry and Pippin reveal they knew he was going to leave Crickhollow, and that they will join him. They decide to leave the next day, by way of the Old Forest.
